Houghton Mifflin Reading

Houghton Mifflin Reading is a research-based reading program.

Instruction is in a consistent lesson based format focusing on the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, and writing.  Content is aligned with state standards.

The literature is culturally diverse, and is a balance of fiction and nonfiction. The collection of fiction and nonfiction leveled books link directly to the Anthology selections and reinforce key vocabulary while meeting a range of reading abilities.

Integrated language arts lessons link reading to writing, grammar, and spelling.

Intervention Kits offer extra reading and English language support.

Teaching is assessment-based, with built-in diagnostic checks and rubrics to help monitor student progress daily, weekly, and by theme.
